Last night, I witnessed a room full of men turn into little boys. My husband discovered a foosball table on the ship and wanted to play a game with me. No one was playing on the table. There were mostly men in the bar, sitting at bar height table having drinks.
Well, I knew I would be terrible at it, but I agreed to one game. Once we approached the table, I could tell we already had the attention of the room. Those guys were interested in who was going to win! While we were playing, a gentleman came up and said he wanted to play the winner.
As expected, I played terribly - it was 4 to zero when I finally got a ball in. The room erupted in applause. They were rooting for the obvious underdog. That was my first and last score. My husband was clearly the winner.
That gentleman came over and played my husband, and another guy said he wanted to play the winner of that game, but we left before that happened.
I thoroughly enjoyed myself and was glad I had agreed to play. It was the most joy I had experienced all day. There was such an atmosphere of fun and excitement in the room. Everything went from just a normal evening to a room full of elation. Little boys were playing and having fun just like when they were very young.
I went by there a little while later and asked who won the last game. One guy pointed out that the guy next to him had lost. The loser started talking about how the ball was in bad shape and the table wasn’t level - which was true - but nevertheless, he had to defend his loss. So cute!
